We have another great song for you. Tony Orlando and Dawn.

I know by now you’re wondering … Does this guy like anything that was written in the last 10 years?

We’ll get to that later.

You know, this one really made me think — I was sitting on a plane — how do lenders and borrowers negotiate?

And, you’re wondering, what does Tony, Orlando and Dawn, and “Knock Three Times” have to do with that?

Let’s go through it.

He can hear the music playing.

Well, first of all, he can feel the body swaying.

Now she’s one floor below him.

I don’t know.

But if he can get in touch with me and tell me exactly how we felt her body swaying one floor below him — I’m guessing this building probably should have been condemned — we’ll get back to that another time.

You don’t even know me, and I love you.

Yeah – OK — It’s the seventies. Whatever.

Oh, my darling, knock three times on the ceiling — if you want me.
Twice on the pipes if the answer is no.

Okay. This is every borrower and every lender. They all think they know each other. The borrowers are convinced that the lenders know exactly what’s going on in their business.

They think that they’re just one floor away.

That lender knows exactly what’s going on in the borrower’s business.

And the lender is sure the borrower understands exactly what the lender needs.

Meanwhile, they’re sitting there looking at each other, saying, if they would just come in with the terms I need, we’d have this deal done.

Oh, my sweetness
Means you’ll meet me in the hallway.

They want to get a deal done. They really do! But they just can’t make it happen.

Oh, twice on the pipe
Means you ain’t gonna show.

Well, we all know what happens today. It’s ghosting. You’re not going to hear a damn thing.

If you look out your window tonight
Pulling the string with the note that’s attached to my heart.

Uh, huh. Here we go with ghosting.

Read how many times I saw you.
How — in my silence — I adore you.

Here comes the ghosting — the silence.

And only in my dreams did that wall between us come apart?

Yeah — he was getting ghosted. So, if you think ghosting is something new, it isn’t.

I digress. Let’s get back to our lenders and borrowers.

So, the borrower decides they’re going silent, play hard to get with the vendor because no news is good news.

Works as well with borrowers and lenders as it did for Tony’s love-struck neighbors.

Yeah. It doesn’t work folks.

And lenders, I know there’s always the fear of lender liability, and lender liability seems to be back around. Put it under 408. We need communication. Somehow, we gotta get out of this whole thing, because it’s not working.

Oh, my darling, knock three times on the ceilings if you want me.
Twice on the pipe, if the answer is no.

You get the point.
